Russia and China Extend Fast-Track Patent Review for Inventions
Russia’s patent office and China’s patent authority have extended their accelerated examination program for invention applications, keeping a fast-track channel in place for applicants between the two major powers. The move is meant to speed up patent review and strengthen cross-border cooperation in high-tech innovation.
According to the announcement, the program is now set to operate indefinitely, starting from 1 July 2023, which gives inventors and companies in both countries a more stable framework for patenting technologies. The decision is especially relevant for technology sectors that depend on faster protection cycles, including engineering, electronics, and industrial systems.
The extension also signals continued alignment between two of the world’s largest patent jurisdictions at a time when countries are competing to secure strategic inventions more quickly. For technology developers, the practical impact is shorter waiting times and greater predictability in filing strategy.
