The World Intellectual Property Organization said that international patent applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty rose again in 2025, reaching 275,900 applications, up 0.7% from the previous year. The update points to continued global demand for patent protection, especially in technology-driven sectors, and suggests that cross-border innovation activity remained resilient despite a cautious economic environment.
According to WIPO, the increase marks the second consecutive year of growth in PCT filings, reinforcing the role of the international patent system as a key route for protecting inventions across major markets.
