Russia and China Make Their Patent Fast-Track for Inventions Permanent
Russia and China have agreed to make their accelerated patent examination program for invention applications permanent, strengthening a bilateral mechanism that helps applicants obtain patents faster in two major technology markets.[2]
The Russian patent office and China’s patent authority extended the program on 24 May 2026, with the arrangement now set to operate indefinitely from 1 July 2023 onward.[2]
- The move is significant for technology inventors seeking quicker protection for inventions in Russia and China, two of the world’s largest innovation and manufacturing hubs.[2]
- Fast-track examination can reduce delays in patent prosecution, which is especially important for sectors with short product cycles such as electronics, industrial engineering, and AI-related hardware and software.[2]
- The decision also signals continued cooperation between two major global powers on intellectual property procedures, even as patent systems worldwide face pressure to become faster and more business-friendly.[2][4]
