Russia and China Extend Fast-Track Examination for Invention Patents
Russia’s Rospatent and the China National Intellectual Property Administration have extended their fast-track patent examination program for invention applications, making the bilateral route between two major patent offices effectively permanent from 1 July 2023 onward. The move is intended to speed up patent processing for applicants filing technology-related inventions in both markets.[2]
The agreement matters because it strengthens cross-border protection for technological inventions at a time when major economies are competing to attract filings, reduce examination delays, and accelerate commercialization. It is also a notable international patent-policy development involving two of the world’s largest innovation systems.[2][3]
According to the report, the program gives inventors a more efficient path to seek protection in both jurisdictions, which can be especially relevant for sectors where timing is critical, such as electronics, industrial engineering, and advanced manufacturing.[2]
