Navitas Takes Renesas to Court Over AI-Grade GaN Chip Patents

On 10 August 2026, U.S. chipmaker Navitas filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Japan’s Renesas in Texas, alleging that Renesas’ gallium nitride semiconductors used in AI data-center power systems violate four Navitas patents.[1][2]

The case highlights how patent disputes are intensifying around next-generation chip technologies, especially GaN, which is becoming increasingly important for high-efficiency power delivery in AI infrastructure.[1][2]

Navitas’ complaint adds another high-stakes technology patent battle between U.S. and Japanese semiconductor companies as demand for AI hardware pushes advanced power-chip innovation into the spotlight.[1][2]
