WIPO Reports Continued Growth in Global Patent Filings as 2025 PCT Applications Rise

The World Intellectual Property Organization said international patent applications filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty rose for a second straight year, reaching 275,900 in 2025, up 0.7% from the previous year.[3]

The update is relevant to the global technology sector because the PCT system is the main route companies and inventors use to seek protection across multiple countries with one application.[3]

WIPO’s latest figures suggest that worldwide patenting activity remains resilient despite a slower pace of growth, pointing to continued demand for cross-border protection of inventions in fields such as digital technologies, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.[3]
